January 23rd
Today was the first time Kira saw a movie in a movie theatre! Rob and I took her to see Disney/Pixar’s The Princess and the Frog. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I figured she was old enough to enjoy it and it’s always fun doing new things with my girl. It was actually quite enjoyable for all of us. Rob and I are huge movie lovers, (we’ve seen hundreds of movies together in the theatre) and ever since we had Kira, we looked forward to the day when we could take her with us. So, when the movie started, we looked across at each other, looked down at Kira in the seat between us and then smiled lovingly at each other. We didn’t need to say anything, we both knew what the other was thinking, it was a “perfect moment”. She sat still in her chair, eating her own popcorn for the very first time, for about 30 minutes. After awhile she wanted to stand up, so she did, looking around at the theatre full of kids and absorbing her new environment. I have to admit that I missed many key moments in the movie because I was too busy watching her
Then after her legs got tired, she decided that she wanted to sit with me. For the better part of the movie, she sat on my lap, eating popcorn, drinking juice and cuddling me, kissing me and whispering “I love you”. I have no idea what got into her but I savoured each and every second of it! Perhaps she is a theatre-movie-lover like her parents and she was just so happy to be there or maybe she was just tired and needed some TLC? Whatever her reasons, she was, for the most part, an absolute joy to be with. Many times, I looked over at Rob and he had that look on his face…joy, love and a little bit of jealousy because I was getting all this love and attention from our little girl. I can’t blame him (I’m usually on the other end, watching Kira shower him with love!) because it sure was nice!
The movie was actually quite good, I loved the whole voodoo aspect and Monsieur Facilier. Kira said she liked it, as did Rob so it ended up being a very enjoyable and memorable afternoon for all of us. I am looking forward to taking her to see Toy Story 3 this summer!
Enjoying her snacks

Kira had quite the set-up there didn’t she? I’m so glad your first movie date with Kira was a success. BTW…I still want to munch her up!
